Attack profile from CVSS 3.1 · CNA. Fix status from CNA. Impact type from CWE-613.
Summary
The refresh token grant type in WSO2 products does not re-check account status before issuing new access tokens. An attacker can obtain valid access tokens for accounts that the user store has blocked, which bypasses account lockout. The attacker can then act as the blocked user, reaching the account's resources and possibly escalating privileges or exfiltrating data, depending on the account's permissions. The weakness is CWE-613 with a CVSS 3.1 base score of 4.9 (MEDIUM), CISA has not added it to KEV, and the references contain no exploit link.

Description from the CNA
The refresh token grant type in WSO2 products fails to re-validate account status before issuing new access tokens. This weakness allows an attacker to obtain valid access tokens for user accounts even after they have been blocked by the user store, bypassing account lockout mechanisms. This vulnerability can lead to unauthorized access to user accounts and their associated resources. Attackers can leverage this to perform actions on behalf of blocked users, potentially leading to privilege escalation or data exfiltration depending on the permissions of the compromised account.
