Summary
The Bluetooth HCI codec parsers in the Linux kernel read the vendor codec count past the end of the socket buffer when a controller's Read Local Supported Codecs reply ends right after the standard codec array. The initial reply-size check does not guarantee that the vendor count byte remains after that array. Red Hat rates the issue Moderate and lists no available fix for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8, 9 and 10 or OpenShift Container Platform 4 and 5. CISA has not added CVE-2026-98247 to KEV.

Description from the CNA
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: Bluetooth: hci_codec: validate vendor codec count length The Read Local Supported Codecs parsers consume the variable-sized standard codec array before parsing the vendor codec count. Although the initial reply-size check includes a vendor count byte in the fixed layout, it does not guarantee that the byte remains after the standard codec array. If a controller reply ends immediately after that array, calculating the vendor codec array size reads vnd_codecs->num beyond the skb data. Use skb_pull_data() to validate and consume each codec header before using its count in both command variants.

Remediation
Update the Linux kernel to 6.1.189, 6.6.158, 6.12.112, 6.18.54, 7.2.8 or 7.3, or apply the upstream commits that validate each codec header with skb_pull_data() before its count is used. Red Hat lists no available fix for the affected RHEL and OpenShift products.
