Attack profile from CVSS 3.1 · CISA ADP. Fix status from CNA. Impact type from CWE-200.

Summary

The BackWPup WordPress plugin before 5.7.7 does not properly restrict web access to its working directory used during backup restores (CWE-200). On webservers that ignore .htaccess rules, such as NGINX, an unauthenticated attacker can download the full backup archive left behind by an interrupted restore, including the database dump, site files, credentials and secret keys. A public exploit link is listed in the references.

Description from the CNA

The BackWPup WordPress plugin before 5.7.7 does not properly restrict web access to the working directory it uses during backup restores, allowing unauthenticated attackers, on webservers that do not honour .htaccess rules such as NGINX, to download the full backup archive (database dump and site files, including credentials and secret keys) left behind by an interrupted restore.
