Summary

Google Guava versions from 4.0 before 33.7.2 are affected. When deserializing CompactHashMap, CompactHashSet, or MapMakerInternalMap, Guava eagerly allocates an array sized by a caller-specified value without limits (CWE-770). A remote attacker without privileges can send a crafted serialized stream that exhausts memory and causes an OutOfMemoryError denial of service. CISA SSVC data records proof-of-concept exploitation.

Description from the CNA

Allocation of resources without limits or throttling (CWE-770) during Java object deserialization in Google Guava versions 4.0 through 33.7.1 allows an attacker to cause a Denial of Service via OutOfMemoryError. When deserializing CompactHashMap, CompactHashSet, or MapMakerInternalMap instances, Guava eagerly allocates an array based on a caller-specified size parameter without throttling, permitting memory exhaustion from crafted serialization streams.

Remediation

Upgrade Google Guava to version 33.7.2, which also fixes the Maven package com.google.guava:guava. Red Hat fixes this in Red Hat Build of Apache Camel 3.33.4.SP3 through RHSA-2026:95622. The sources list no fixed version for Exploit Intelligence, Migration Toolkit for Applications 8, OpenShift Developer Tools and Services, OpenShift Serverless, Red Hat AMQ Broker 7 and other products, and no fix planned for Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform 7.
