Summary

Progress ShareFile Storage Zones Controller versions 5.12.6 and below are affected. The FileCopyService builds a local temporary file path from a remote file identifier without checking that the path stays inside the intended directory, a path traversal flaw (CWE-22). An attacker can make the service write attacker-controlled content to locations writable by the service account, and if an executable IIS-served directory is writable, this can lead to remote code execution. Exploitation requires local access, high attack complexity, and no privileges or user interaction.

In Progress ShareFile Storage Zones Controller v5.12.6 and below, FileCopyService uses a remote file identifier when constructing a local temporary file path without enforcing containment. This can cause FileCopyService to write attacker-controlled content to filesystem locations writable by the service account. This can result in remote code execution when an executable IIS-served directory is writable.
