Summary

quirc through 1.2 contains an excessive-iteration flaw (CWE-834) in find_alignment_pattern() in lib/identify.c. Three arranged finder patterns produce a near-degenerate perspective transform that causes billions of region_code() iterations. A local attacker with no privileges needs a user to decode a crafted image, which hangs quirc_end() and exhausts CPU in applications that decode attacker-supplied QR images.

Description from the CNA

quirc through 1.2 contains an excessive-iteration vulnerability in find_alignment_pattern() in lib/identify.c that allows attackers to hang quirc_end() with a crafted image. Attackers can arrange three finder patterns producing a near-degenerate perspective transform, causing billions of region_code() iterations that exhaust CPU in applications decoding attacker-supplied QR images.
