Summary
GitPython before 3.2.0 has an information disclosure flaw in Repo._clone(), which omits expand_vars=False when it calls Git.polish_url(). A malicious repository can use a crafted .gitmodules submodule name, so that cloning and running submodule_update exposes environment variable values in .git/modules directory names and DEBUG logs. The weakness is CWE-200. A remote attacker needs a user to clone the malicious repository and run submodule_update, and needs no privileges.

Description from the CNA
GitPython before 3.2.0 contains an information disclosure vulnerability that allows malicious repositories to expand environment variables via separate_git_dir in Repo._clone(), which omits expand_vars=False when calling Git.polish_url(). Attackers can craft a .gitmodules submodule name containing variable syntax so that clone plus submodule_update exposes secrets in .git/modules directory names and DEBUG logs.
