Summary
EarthScope libmseed through 3.5.4 contains a heap out-of-bounds read (CWE-125) in ms3_detect() in parseutils.c. The function reads past truncated miniSEED 2 record buffers. A local attacker can supply a buffer of 40 to 47 bytes that passes header validation, over-reading up to 8 bytes and potentially crashing the process, and a user must process the buffer. A public exploit is linked in the references.
