Summary
Netgate pfSense CE through 2.9.0 contains a newline injection flaw (CWE-93) in services_pppoe_edit.php, where unvalidated username fields let privileged users add mpd.secret entries. An attacker with the PPPoE Server Edit privilege can add an entry whose secret begins with an exclamation mark, which makes mpd5 run commands as root when a PPPoE client authenticates. The public record links an exploit proof of concept in its references.
