Summary
The nfs-utils package in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 and Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform 4 and 5 is affected. The fsidd daemon does not properly validate input received on its local domain socket and relies on program assertions to check command arguments, so a request missing required arguments triggers an assertion failure (CWE-617). A local user with low privileges can crash the daemon, which denies filesystem identifier lookup services until it is restarted.

Description from the CNA
A flaw was found in nfs-utils. The fsidd daemon improperly handles input received over its local domain socket by relying on program assertions to verify command arguments. A local user can exploit this vulnerability by sending a malformed request lacking the required arguments to trigger an assertion failure. This causes the daemon to crash, resulting in a Denial of Service (DoS) for filesystem identifier lookup services until restarted.
