Summary
An attacker who tricks a user into opening or previewing a specially crafted PowerVR (.pvr) file can exploit an integer overflow in the GIMP file-pvr plug-in (CWE-190). The overflow occurs when the plug-in calculates memory buffer sizes for image dimensions, which leads to a heap-based buffer overflow. Successful exploitation can result in arbitrary code execution or a denial of service through an application crash. Red Hat lists GIMP as affected without a fix on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6, 7, 8 and 9.

Description from the CNA
A flaw was found in GIMP. An integer overflow occurs in the file-pvr plug-in when calculating memory buffer sizes for image dimensions. By tricking a user into opening or previewing a specially crafted PowerVR (.pvr) file, an attacker can trigger a heap-based buffer overflow, potentially leading to arbitrary code execution or a Denial of Service (DoS) via an application crash.
