Summary
nfs-utils in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 and Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform 4 and 5 is affected. The rpc.statd service does not release memory allocated during callback processing (CWE-772), so memory keeps growing. An unauthenticated remote attacker who can reach an exposed rpc.statd service can send repeated state notification requests, which can exhaust system resources until the service degrades or crashes.

Description from the CNA
A flaw was found in nfs-utils. An unauthenticated remote attacker can trigger a Denial of Service (DoS) by sending repeated state notification requests to an exposed rpc.statd service. The service fails to properly release memory allocated during callback processing, leading to continuous memory growth. Sustained requests can exhaust system resources, eventually causing the service to degrade or crash.
