Summary
NoMachine installations from 9.8.2_1 are affected by a heap-based buffer overflow in the parsing of mDNS resource records (CWE-122). The code copies user-supplied data to a heap buffer without validating its length. A network-adjacent attacker can execute arbitrary code in the context of the service account, and no authentication is required.

Description from the CNA
NoMachine mDNS Heap-based Buffer Overflow Remote Code Execution Vulnerability. This vulnerability allows network-adjacent attackers to execute arbitrary code on affected installations of NoMachine. Authentication is not required to exploit this vulnerability. The specific flaw exists within the parsing of mDNS resource records. The issue results from the lack of proper validation of the length of user-supplied data prior to copying it to a heap-based buffer. An attacker can leverage this vulnerability to execute code in the context of the service account. Was ZDI-CAN-30982.
