Summary

svg-sanitizer from 0.5.3 before 1.1.0 contains a denial of service flaw in Sanitizer::sanitize() that repeatedly rescans the whole input while stripping PHP tags (CWE-407). An unauthenticated attacker can upload an SVG with many overlapping PHP tag openers and closers, forcing quadratic preg_replace passes that exhaust worker CPU for minutes. The CVSS 4.0 base score is 8.7 (HIGH), with impact limited to availability. CISA SSVC rates exploitation at the proof-of-concept level.
