Summary

WatchGuard Fireware OS versions from 2025.1 before 2026.4, from 12.0 before 12.12.4 and from 12.0 before 12.5.22 are affected. The FireCluster Sync processing does not check authentication, so requests arriving on the cluster interconnect are trusted. An attacker on that interconnect, such as a compromised cluster peer, can send a crafted request to invoke privileged firewall actions as root without credentials.

A missing authentication vulnerability in the FireCluster Sync processing allows an attacker positioned on the cluster interconnect, such as a compromised cluster peer or an on-path network attacker, to invoke privileged firewall management actions as root by sending a specially crafted request.
