Summary

The WP Inventory Manager plugin by chuck1982 for WordPress is vulnerable to time-based SQL Injection via the 'sort_order' shortcode attribute in all versions up to and including 2.5.5. The plugin does not sufficiently escape the parameter and does not prepare the existing SQL query, so an authenticated attacker with Contributor access or higher can append SQL queries to existing ones and extract sensitive information from the database. The attack works through the [wpinventory_categories] shortcode in a draft post viewed in preview, so the post does not need to be published. CVSS 3.1 scores it 6.5 (MEDIUM), and it is mapped to CWE-89.

Description from the CNA

The WP Inventory Manager plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to time-based SQL Injection via 'sort_order' Shortcode Attribute in all versions up to, and including, 2.5.5 due to insufficient escaping on the user supplied parameter and lack of sufficient preparation on the existing SQL query. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with contributor-level access and above, to append additional SQL queries into already existing queries that can be used to extract sensitive information from the database. This can be exploited by a Contributor via the [wpinventory_categories] shortcode embedded in a draft post rendered through preview, without requiring the post to be published.
