Summary
Echo v5 in labstack echo from 5.0.0 before 5.4.1 has a flaw in its ExtractIPFromRealIPHeader extractor, which checks whether the client-supplied X-Real-IP value is in a trusted range instead of checking the direct network peer. Because of this use of a less trusted source (CWE-348), a remote client that reaches Echo directly, or through a proxy that keeps the header, can send a loopback or private address so that Context.RealIP returns a spoofed identity. Applications that use the extractor for IP allowlists, rate limiting, audit logs, or forwarding headers can then trust an attacker-controlled address. The default direct extractor and Echo v4 are not affected.

Description from the CNA
Echo is a Go web framework. From 5.0.0 until 5.4.1, Echo v5's ExtractIPFromRealIPHeader validates whether the client-supplied X-Real-IP value belongs to a trusted range instead of validating the direct network peer. A client reaching Echo directly, or through a proxy that preserves the header, can supply a loopback or private address and have Context.RealIP return that spoofed identity. Applications using the extractor for IP allowlists, rate limiting, audit logs, or forwarding headers can consequently trust an attacker-controlled address; the default direct extractor and Echo v4 are unaffected. This issue is fixed in 5.4.1.

Remediation
Upgrade labstack echo v5 to 5.4.1, which fixes the issue. Echo v4 is unaffected, so it needs no upgrade for this issue.
