Summary

SQLite before 3.54.0 contains uncontrolled recursion (CWE-674) in countOfViewOptimization() that exhausts the C stack. A local attacker who supplies SQL or a database file with a crafted view can crash the host process with a count(*) query over a large multi-row VALUES clause, and the attack requires user interaction. A public proof of concept exploit is linked in the references.

Description from the CNA

SQLite before 3.54.0 contains a stack exhaustion vulnerability in countOfViewOptimization() that allows attackers to crash the host process via count(*) over a large multi-row VALUES clause. Attackers supplying SQL or a database file with a crafted view can trigger deeply nested TK_PLUS expressions whose recursive freeing in sqlite3ExprDeleteNN() exhausts the C stack, causing denial of service.

Remediation

Upgrade SQLite to 3.54.0, the fixed version. Red Hat fixes Red Hat Hardened Images in RHSA-2026:86202. The sources list no fixed version for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 (no fix planned), or for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7, 8, 9 and 10, RHEL AI 3, OpenShift Container Platform 4 and 5 (none available). The sources list no fixed version for Red Hat OpenShift AI (RHOAI).
