Summary

FreeRDP before 3.32.0 contains a heap buffer overflow in persistent_cache_read_entry_v3 (CWE-122). Large width and height values in a crafted v3 persistent cache file wrap the size calculation, so fread writes past an undersized buffer. A local attacker with low privileges can corrupt memory and potentially execute code. A public exploit is linked in the references.

Description from the CNA

FreeRDP before 3.32.0 contains a heap buffer overflow vulnerability in persistent_cache_read_entry_v3 that allows local attackers to corrupt memory by supplying a crafted v3 persistent cache file. Attackers can set large width and height values that wrap the size calculation in persist_cache_get_data, causing fread to overflow an undersized buffer and potentially execute code.

Remediation

Upgrade FreeRDP to version 3.32.0 or later. Red Hat has fixed it in Red Hat Enterprise Linux AppStream (v. 10) and Red Hat Enterprise Linux CodeReady Linux Builder (v. 10) through RHSA-2026:94514, while Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7, 8 and 9 have no fix available and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 has no fix planned.
