Summary

MongoDB Compass before 1.53.1 relies on the Electron runtime, whose bundled TLS root certificate store contains recoverable eMudhra intermediate CA certificates. Because of improper certificate validation (CWE-295), Compass trusts certificates chained to these intermediates. An unauthenticated remote attacker who can present a certificate issued by one of these CAs and get a user to interact with the connection can intercept or alter traffic.

Description from the CNA

MongoDB Compass relies on Electron, a third-party runtime that carries its own TLS root certificate store. This root certificate store has the recoverable eMudhra intermediate CA certificates. Issue is resolved by updating to Compass 1.53.1, which includes Electron 44.9.1.
