Summary
Go JOSE, a Go implementation of JWE, JWS and JWT, is affected by uncontrolled recursion (CWE-674) when parsing attacker-controlled JSON. Deeply nested arrays or objects exceed Go's stack limit and cause a stack overflow that crashes the application, exposing applications that parse untrusted JSON to denial of service. Red Hat rates the issue Important, and the CVSS 4.0 score is 6.9 (MEDIUM). The github.com/go-jose/go-jose/v3 module, up to and including 3.0.5, has no fix listed.

Description from the CNA
Go JOSE provides an implementation of the Javascript Object Signing and Encryption set of standards in Go, including support for JSON Web Encryption (JWE), JSON Web Signature (JWS), and JSON Web Token (JWT) standards. Prior to 4.1.5, parsing attacker-controlled JSON through go-jose allows deeply nested arrays or objects to exceed Go's stack limit. The resulting stack overflow crashes the application and permits denial of service in applications that parse untrusted JSON through go-jose. This issue is fixed in version 4.1.5.

Remediation
Upgrade github.com/go-jose/go-jose/v4 to version 4.1.5, which fixes the issue. Versions before 4.1.5 are affected. The v3 module has no fix listed, so applications using it need another mitigation.
