Summary

Alpine iLX-F511 devices from 7.0.000 contain a stack-based buffer overflow in the framework service. User-supplied data is copied to a fixed-length stack buffer without validating its length (CWE-121). A physically present attacker without authentication can execute arbitrary code as root.

Description from the CNA

Alpine iLX-F511 Framework Service Stack-based Buffer Overflow Remote Code Execution Vulnerability. This vulnerability allows physically present attackers to execute arbitrary code on affected installations of Alpine iLX-F511 devices. Authentication is not required to exploit this vulnerability. The specific flaw exists within the framework service. The issue results from the lack of proper validation of the length of user-supplied data prior to copying it to a fixed-length stack-based buffer. An attacker can leverage this vulnerability to execute code in the context of root. Was ZDI-CAN-29007.
