Summary

Fraunhofer HHI VVdeC before 3.2.1 contains an out-of-bounds read caused by improper validation of an array index (CWE-129). A crafted bitstream with overlapping slice CTU coverage makes a bi-predicted coding unit carry a negative reference index, so the decoder reads outside its reference picture list and crashes. An unauthenticated attacker can crash the decoder by supplying such a bitstream, and user interaction is required.

Description from the CNA

Fraunhofer HHI VVdeC before 3.2.1 contains an out-of-bounds read vulnerability that allows attackers to crash the decoder by supplying bitstreams with overlapping slice CTU coverage. Attackers can code a CTU in a second slice so a bi-predicted BDOF coding unit carries a negative reference index, causing Slice::getRefPic to read outside m_apcRefPicList and crash decoding.
