Attack profile from CVSS 4.0 · CNA. Fix status from CNA. Impact type from CWE-770.

Summary

Vikunja before 2.7.1 contains a denial of service flaw in its import handling. Because the WeKan and vikunja-file imports have no item-count cap, an authenticated user can exhaust API process memory by uploading an oversized import, such as a WeKan JSON file with hundreds of thousands of cards or duplicate IDs sent to the wekan migrate endpoint. The resulting out-of-memory condition crashes the instance. The weakness is classified as CWE-770, allocation of resources without limits or throttling.

Description from the CNA

Vikunja before 2.7.1 contains a denial of service vulnerability that allows authenticated users to exhaust API process memory by uploading WeKan or vikunja-file imports with no item-count cap. Attackers can submit a ~22 MB WeKan JSON with hundreds of thousands of cards or duplicate IDs to the wekan migrate endpoint, triggering OOM and crashing the instance.
