Summary

OW2 ASM from 3.0 before 9.11 contains a quadratic memory allocation flaw (CWE-407) in MethodWriter.computeMaxStackAndLocal() and computeAllFrames() when COMPUTE_MAXS or COMPUTE_FRAMES is used. A local attacker can supply a crafted class file with thousands of overlapping exception handlers, which causes an OutOfMemoryError that crashes the JVM.

OW2 ASM 3.0 before 9.11 contains a quadratic memory allocation vulnerability in MethodWriter.computeMaxStackAndLocal() and computeAllFrames() when using COMPUTE_MAXS or COMPUTE_FRAMES. Attackers can supply a crafted class file with thousands of overlapping exception handlers, causing excessive Edge allocations and an OutOfMemoryError that crashes the JVM.

Upgrade OW2 ASM to version 9.11, which fixes this issue. Red Hat fixes this in Red Hat Hardened Images through RHSA-2026:83847. Red Hat lists Red Hat build of Quarkus as affected without a fix and has no available plan to fix it.
